I saw the film this afternoon. It was the first time I saw it. It was very moving and very powerful, and disturbing. I was and I still am a patient of Saltsburg Family Practice. I remember Dr. Bagby. He and Dr. Putnam were my doctors. Dr. Putnam is still my doctor. God bless Dr. Bagby’s parents, friends, and relatives for all you have endured and all you have done through this horror to promote change and honor your son, and grandson so that they did not die in vain. I’m in shock, I believe. How could there be such evil in this world and yet angels do walk among us. God Bless You~ Marcy

I saw this movie tonight on Netflix instant; thank god for Netflix instant! Dear Zachary just destroyed me; as heartfelt of a film as I have ever seen. I am not one to easy emotion but the whallop packed by the final minutes of this film were like the endings of Field of Dreams, Brian's Song, and Old Yeller times 1,000. Thank you for this beautiful movie.

I watched this film twice yesterday; the first time I sobbed holding my one year old son and the second time making my boyfriend watch it.

This story has both amazed and disgusted me. Kurt, you're an amazing film maker, the trouble you went through astounds me, and its a truly beautiful thing you did.

Love to the Bagby family from England. No one deserves the horror which you faced. Andrew and Zachary were clearly loved by everyone who met them.

Kurt, you are a beautiful filmmaker. I cried so much at the end of this film. Not for sadness mainly just because of how beautiful it was. I can say that this definitely made an impact on the way on viewed life and I'm sure that this happened to everyone else who watched this. All of because of you and your beautiful family. I will keep all of you in my prayers. Peace and blessings.

P.S. Kate and David, extremely powerful people. You both are a gift. One day you both will be reunited with your sons. and the good thing about it is, it will be a million times better than how it was on this earth. How beautiful. Take care.

Sincerely, Teresa

I watched this film several months ago and have been left scarred by its message. When the film announced the death of Zachery I felt as though my heart literally stopped. I have never been so moved, so horrified, so powerless in all my life. To think people are capable of such unspeakable evil chills me to the core.

My girlfriend and I talked about this film for days after watching it. We are so happy that people like the Bagbys exist. David and Kathleen are icons of how good humanity can truly be. I know that nothing could ease their pain, but they have endured it with grace, determination and love. I want them at the very least to know that they are loved by countless thousands who they will never meet. I hope that we can all follow their example.

I will never forget this film. Let no one doubt that there are truly monsters out there.

I watched this film today for the first time and was brought to the extreme precipicies of anger, happiness, and sadness along with a healthy dose of outrage ...

Thank you for taking us all on this journey and informing us of this profound tragedy of humanity, legality, and society ...

THIS is what a documentary SHOULD be and it bleeds into the psyche even hours after experiencing it ...

Thank You

As a mother of a 6 year old son, I was deeply touched by this amazing film. I have never watched something so tragic and inspiring all at the same time. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. Andrew and Zachary will live on, not only through the memories of family and friends, but also through the lives of the children who will be saved with passing of new laws in Canada.

I cried, I got mad, I laughed, and I cried. Amazing documentary film. Saddened that a human could shoot down another human like a dog in the park. Shocked at how the system let this happen to a little boy. Broken hearted that a mother could take her childs life. I had to hold my 11 month old for a long time after watching this. Amazed at the love from the family and friends for Andrew, David and Kate, and Zachary. Thank you Mr. and Mrs Bagby for the strength and love you have shown through all of this.

It has been almost 18 yrs. since the death of my 10 yr. old son Brandon and I have grieved nearly every moment since. I am truly inspired by the strength and love it took for Kate & David to endure all they have and still wake up to fight another day. God Bless Them, that they see this fight through so that no other parent has to endure a story like their own. And to Kurt a friend so dear as to give so many years just to leave a letter to his friends son, only to give Kate & David more children then they ever thought possible. Bless you as well!

This was such an important story to tell and Kurt did it amazingly. I was moved to tears several times throughout the film. It is tragic and horrendous what the Bagby family was put through. But the heart and strength of the family was awe-inspiring. Thank you for making this important documentary and I truly hope that you are able to achieve the reform you seek in Canadian law.

As I write this the credits are rolling to Dear Zachary. This is a story that will never leave my heart. The unconditional love that was provided from Kate and David for both Andrew and Zachary was utterly moving, and equally heart breaking when it was found that Zachary had been murdered as well. Feeling this heartbreak as an observer, I cannot fathom the pain that the Bagsbys and their loved ones have gone through since 2001. As someone who works with children who have been taken out of the home by child protective services, it infuriates me to see the neglect that was evident in Shirley's bail setting, and especially in regards to Judge Welsh's recommendation. Having a court official make a ruling regarding one's mental state is extremely unethical. If Judge Welsh had questions regarding Shirley's mental state or wanted to make recommendations based on Shirley's mental state, she should have consulted with the psychiatrist who was treating Shirley while in jail, the one who placed her on 15 minute suicide checks, not the other unethical/inappropriate creepy one. I'm working towards my doctoral degree in clinical psychology, and just from what was presented in the film, Shirley could very possible met criteria for numerous axis I and axis II diagnoses. I plan on writing Judge Welsh a letter requesting that she allow psychologists to do their job, just as psychologist allow her to judge. My heartfelt thoughts of sympathy and utter awe in the amazing strength that embodies Kate and David Bagby.
Congrats on the unanimous vote!
